Introducing WPNSA |
Weymouth Bay and Portland Harbour are widely recognised as the finest sailing waters in the UK. This together with the development of the new purpose built, on-shore facilities have resulted in the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy being selected as the venue for the London 2012 Olympic sailing events.
WPNSA primarily offers its superb venue for events and training, but also operates a successful sailing school, an active members' club and welcomes everyone to enjoy its fantastic facilities.

WPNSA to hist Dakine Weymouth Speed Week

Dakine Weymouth Speed Week commences today October, 4th at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, the 2012 Sailing Venue. With over 100 competitors from 6 countries the week ahead looks set to be exciting. The objective of Weymouth Speed Week is to sail as fast as you can over the 500m course. With the world record at a current absolute speed of 46.52 knots, there will be strong competition to beat this record. There are no restrictions on who can enter and all types of sailing craft are welcome making it a unique event.

2012 Sailing Venue appoints new directors Rod Carr OBE, John Derbyshire and Ben Ainslie OBE

The official 2012 sailing venue, the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA), is today October 1st, celebrating the appointment of 3 new Directors. Elected by the WPNSA Board for their commitment to the sport of sailing, Rod Carr OBE, John Derbyshire and triple gold sailing medallist Ben Ainslie OBE have all accepted the offer to be formal Directors of the venue selected by LOCOG to hold the 2012 sailing and windsurfing competition.

WPNSA marks Paralympic hand over with live broadcast from Beijing
18 September
Official 2012 sailing venue, the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA) marked the Beijing to London Paralympics hand over yesterday, Wednesday, September 17th. WPSNA watched the closing ceremony in Beijing on a live broadcast, in the company of local guests. The festivities commenced with youth sailors from Gloucester and Devizes showing their boat handling skills, followed by 14 disabled sailors all from the South West taking to the water with Sail Laser, the live official hand over in Beijing was then broadcast for all at the Academy. Visitors to the event at WPNSA included Jim Knight, MP, Rod Carr, CEO of the RYA and a representative from LOCOG. This final hand over promises to mark the start of a 4 year party atmosphere throughout the whole community, building up to the 2012 sporting event.

WPNSA hosts 29er & 49er National Championships
1st September
The 2012 sailing venue, the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, was again in the spotlight last week, ending August 29th. Both the 49er and 29er sailing classes, originally developed from the Australian 18ft Skiff design, chose the Weymouth and Portland based venue for their 2008 National Championships. The 29er National Championships, finished on August 29th with a total of 57 boats entered, the 29er class acts as a springboard for young sailors to make the transition to the Olympic 49er class. Going into the final day of the 29er National Championships, Bleddyn Mon and Tom Humphries won for a second time over Max Richardson and Alex Groves who had to count their OCS in the final results. Second place went to the French team, Kevin Fisher and Glenn Gouron who were hot on the heels of the National Champions. Top girls were, Becky Diamond and Fiona Hampshire in 5th place overall, an excellent result.

WPNSA Marks Beijing Hand Over With Unveiling of Official New 2012 Flag
24 August
Official 2012 sailing venue, the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA) will be marking this Sunday, August 24th, the Beijing to London hand over with the unveiling of a new 2012 flag, given to the Academy by the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games. This flag can be only be flown at selected 2012 venues. Sunday will be the first time that anyone has viewed the flag and rumour is that the design incorporates the Union Jack within it.
