The Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA) is an internationally renowned sailing events venue which was host to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Sailing Competitions.  Located on the spectacular Jurassic Coast, the only natural World Heritage site in England, we regularly host major events such as World and European Sailing Championships, as well as providing opportunities for recreational sailors to get on the water.  The driving force and focus of the Academy are the sailing events and the provision of access to watersports for all, however, to sustain the facilities and business we have several other income streams, of which one of the more significant ones is our busy and diverse catering provision.

We are currently recruiting a new Head Chef to join our team.  This is a full time role with some flexibility required in the day to day work pattern, although split shifts are not usually required.  Our catering function is complex at times and this role may present an ideal opportunity for career development, whilst also making a substantial contribution to the overall performance of WPNSA in areas such as quality, customer service and business development, all of which are essential to the ongoing success of our operations.

As well as a cafeteria operating seven days a week, we also cater for the requirements across our range of activities.  These include for example, bespoke catering for weddings, formal dinners, conferences, parties and of course, the many sailing events we host.Main duties include:

  • Leading the catering services with a hands-on approach.
  • Being responsible for food hygiene and health and safety in catering areas.
  • Managing stock, payroll, and overhead costs to budget and applicable forecasts
  • Helping to manage the catering team development and training with a mentoring approach.
  • Develop innovative and cost effective menus to meet business needs.
  • Co-ordinating catering staff planning and rotas.
  • Supporting the sales and marketing process for the catering business
  • Proposing and implementing food development in all areas.
  • Acting as Duty Manager where required.
