The Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA), a not for profit organisation, is looking to recruit two trustees to join the main board from June 2018.
As one of the world’s premier venues for major international sailing events, the WPNSA continues to build on the legacy of hosting the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic sailing competitions.
Our purpose is to effectively promote the sport of sailing to all levels of competence and ability, through courses, training and national as well as international events, whilst supporting and working closely with the local community.
Our magnificent venue also lends itself perfectly as an outstanding location for functions, business meetings, weddings, and conferences. First and foremost though, we are a place for sailors run by people with a passion for sailing.
We liaise with a wide variety of stakeholders from both the private and public sectors. These include international and national organisations, sports governing bodies, and national and local government agencies.
With such varied activity taking place within the WPNSA, trustees are sought with a range of skill sets and currently there are vacancies for trustees who can offer specialist knowledge in catering or PR and marketing.
The WPNSA Board of Trustees is comprised of between 8 – 10 members, led by a Chair and Vice Chair. The Chief Executive and Assistant Chief Executive sit on the Board ex officio.
The WPNSA Board of Trustees’ main duties are to:
Develop long term strategic plans
Develop and advise on operational policy
Approve and monitor annual budgets
Oversee risk management and safety matters
Ensure statutory compliance and best practice within a sports environment
Trustees are expected to provide around an average of 6 days of their time a year, on a voluntary basis.
