WPNSA Coronavirus Restrictions

Due to the current situation and ongoing Government advice regarding Coronavirus (COVID–19), we have had to review our site operations until, at least 30th April 2020.  We are monitoring all information from central Government and others, and consequently, our policies will be under constant review as circumstances change.  This letter is to inform everyone using WPSNA of how we intend to operate over the coming weeks.

Our priority is to ensure we look after the wellbeing of our staff and all those attending our site.  We request that all guidelines are followed and your proximity to others is considerate.  If you are showing any symptoms of coronavirus infection (COVID – 19), however mild, we request that you do not attend WPNSA.  If you would please pass this information on to everyone within your groups.

We will have members of staff on site during normal office hours.  If members with boats (or trailers) in storage, regardless of type and have any concerns regarding their boats safety, perhaps after a storm, please do contact us so we can check on your behalf, rather than make an unnecessary journey to the site.  We will continue to monitor all boats in storage and will make contact should we have any concerns we cannot readily deal with or you need to be aware of.

Access to the Buildings and Outside Areas

We are unable to maintain access to many of our social areas within the main building. From Friday 20th March it will only be possible to access the main entrance foyer, Reception upstairs and the toilets along the lower corridor.  All other areas inside the building will not be accessible and this includes the changing rooms, cafeteria, Spinnakers Lounge, the Event Hall and classrooms.  We are intending to keep as many of the outside activities running as may be possible, with the exception of sailing events and training for national squads. We will be operating as follows.

Boat Lifting and Temporary Storage Ashore

We will continue operating our boat lift for launching and recovery and owners are still welcome to attend site to work on their boats.  The reception area will be open during our normal opening hours (09.00 – 17.00 Monday to Friday, 08.00 – 17.00 Saturday and Sunday), and access to the changing rooms and toilets will be the same as usual.  Staff will be operating in the yard and performing other duties as required.  We do ask that consideration is given to where vehicles are parked, as the boat hoist will still be in operation.

Members Launching Their Dinghies From the Main Slipways

Members are welcome to come and sail from WPNSA, however please be aware of the restrictions to social areas.

Members Launching From R3 Hard Slipway Using Their Own Vehicles

Access to the slipway and boat storage compounds will be as normal using the appropriate access codes.

Windsurf Members

We do not foresee any interruption to access for those windsurf members wishing to attend the site. . Access will be by use of gate codes. Please be aware there will be no access to the changing facilities

For Further information on what our on-site partners may be up to, please view their own websites or call them directly.  Contact details can be found on our website.

British Sailing Team

The British Sailing Team have been forced to cancel all overseas preparations for Tokyo 2020 and have returned to the UK to continue their training from WPNSA.  They are following all guidelines and they will be taking additional measures to try and limit their exposure to COVID-19.

Reception

Reception will still be open during our normal hours (09.00 – 17.00 Monday to Friday, 08.00 – 17.00 Saturday and Sunday), however the preferred method of communication is via phone or email, rather than coming up to the reception desk.  Payments for boat lifts and membership renewals can be taken over the phone.  If you do need to come up to the desk to make a payment, please be aware that we are only taking card payments only at this time.

Gate codes

Gate codes will be continuing to change on a weekly basis. Members and boat lifting customers can purchase an access card from reception for a £10 deposit, so that you do not need to contact reception on each occasion.

Day membership and Private Coaching

We are happy for individuals or small groups to train from WPNSA, however please be aware of the restrictions to social areas set out above.  Coaches will need to complete a risk assessment, which will be emailed across in a format that can be edited and needs to be sent to reception@wpnsa.org.uk before going out on the water.  You will then be emailed details of any shipping and any other activities within Portland Harbour, and any additional information that may be relevant.  As usual, all private coaches must be registered with WPNSA before attending site to carry out the coaching.  Payments for day membership will need to made by card.

Locker Keys

We will not be issuing locker keys until after 30th April.

Catering and Cafeteria

As previously mentioned, the cafeteria will be closed, and we are unable to offer alternative catering.

May we take this opportunity to thank you in advance for your cooperation.  We apologise for any inconvenience these arrangements may cause and should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact WPNSA Reception on 01305 866000 or reception@wpnsa.org.uk.

These measures will be in place at least until the end of April.
